What are leather floors? How do you install leather floors? Leather tiles can be glued to a wood or concrete surface. Painted or treated surfaces must be stripped free of all treatments, old adhesive, or other contaminants that may act as a bond breaker. The tiles should be dry laid before gluing; the tiles can then be repositioned to attain the most desirable and aesthetic colour distribution. We recommend that our leather tiles be installed with Stapol adhesives. This adhesive also has a viscosity that helps it to dry and hold fast. Because of the nature of real leather floor tiles, it is important that an adhesive be used that will hold the leather, preventing it from moving, curling at the edges, or dishing. Plywood or wood floors: Prior to installation, if required, the floor surface must be sanded, levelled, repaired and all holes and crevices filled. Any and all protrusions, nails, screw heads and the like must be below floor level and patched. Concrete floors: Must be levelled and patched. Please contact our technical department for specifics on your project. On grade or below grade floors must be checked for moisture and alkaline salts. Caution should be exercised when installing on radiant heated floors. How do you maintain leather floors? To properly protect the new leather floor it should be waxed upon completion of the installation and again before the floor is walked on. The tiles can be waxed again any time the tile looks dull or scruffed, or apply wax regularly just to keep the leather well-conditioned, especially in very dry regions. Just the traffic lanes can be waxed where the majority of scuffing occurs, but generally the scuffing does not bother people as it only seems to add to the natural beauty of the leather. Spills should be wiped off immediately. Use a damp (not wet) mop to mop the tiles as and when needed. If you use a dry mop you will help to eliminate fine particles of dirt/ grit. What are the advantages of using leather? It will add value to your home in not only a financial way, but aesthetically too! |
